What is AMSA? • The American Medical Student Association is committed to improving health care and healthcare delivery to all people; promoting active improvement in medical education; involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; contributing to the welfare of medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and post-MD/DO trainees; and advancing the profession of medicine • Develop the well-balanced and competitive • Medical school applicant • Student that will grow professionally • and personally through community service, • workshops, health advocacy, and friendships

What do we stand for nationally? • AMSA is committed to improving the lives of medical students, physicians and residents. • Strong advocates for • Quality and affordable health care for all • Global Health Equity • Enriching Medicine Through Diversity • Professional Integrity, Development and Student Well-Being

  6. When/How Often do we meet? • We will be meeting every Thursday from 5 to 6 pm • Final Room is still being determined • Food will be provided at every meeting 

Why Pre-Med AMSA? • Pre-Med AMSA is the fastest growing Pre-Med group with over 65,000 members nation wide ranging from pre-med students, medical students and physicians • National Membership is recognized by all medical schools , must be national member to put on AMCAS • Leadership opportunity that is not based on seniority but by dedication • When you join AMSA, you become part of a vital force of future physicians who believe that patients and health professionals are partners in the management of health care and that access to high-quality health care is a right and not a privilege. At AMSA, activism is a way of life. Student idealism is transformed into meaningful public service, innovation and institutional change.  

  8. How do I join? • Attend our weekly meetings and get involved • Become part of committees • Local Membership • Sign up with any Pre-Med AMSA board member for $20 a year • National Membership • Sign up 5 years and this allows you to put Pre-Med AMSA on AMCAS Application for $75

Local Membership • $20 Local membership fee • Apply for committee chair • Apply for board positions during elections • Join Committees • Volunteer through our programs • Earn AMSA Bucks • Food at weekly member meetings • Use local stackable Kaplan Course deal on top of the 10% discount for eligible national members • Apply for a spot in the AMSA medical school mentorship program • U of MN Pre-Med AMSA T-Shirt • AMSA membership folder

AMSA BUCKS • AMSA BUCKS is a way for us to keep track of participation in our group to apply them towards board elections at the end of the year. • Keep track of your AMSA BUCKS through our google document • AMSA BUCKS is also a way for KAPLAN to keep track of local membership involvement before letting members use the exclusive 10% stackable discounts • Email secretary Krista deco0082@umn.edu if you have any questions
