  2. Meriwether Lewis1774-1809 • Born in Albemarle County, Virginia. • He was the son of Lt. William Lewis. • As a kid he enjoyed natural history. • Lucy Meriwether, his mother, showed him how to use herbs for medicine. • In 1793 Lewis enlisted in the Virginia militia.

  3. William Clark1770-1838 • Born in Caroline County, Virginia • He was the ninth of John and Ann Rogers Clark’s ten kids. • He was home schooled. • He spelled "Sioux" 27 different ways in his journal. • He volunteered for a militia lead by Major John Harden.

  4. The Expedition1804-1806 • 1st transcontinental expedition across the USA. • They were accompanied by Sacagawea. • 33 people went on the expedition. • They established contact with many Native American tribes. • They tried and failed to find a river route across the USA.
