INTRODUCTION • The paradigm shift • Greateremphasis on preventative and promotive health • The rationale envisaged for behaviourial and attitude change begins with change in lifestyle modalities. • Lifestyle modalities are influenced by a diverse and often complicated range of social and cultural determinants. • Hence the cardinal focus is to ensure focused and targeted programmes and interventions are developed to accelerate service delivery at grass roots levels. PROVINCIAL RESPONSE • The preventative and promotive strategies and interventions are drawn from the KZN health priorities which have been identified as a result of its prevalence of the disease profile and burden in the province. • The measures , focuses and targets are drawn from the strategic health programmes themselves. This therefore serves as a catalyst to unify quality service delivery at household level. • The Provincial mandate which shapes the interventions is guided by the following pillars: • Integration both horizontally and vertically • Ward based • Sector focused Government connecting people to quality services Building blocks to better service delivery - Know your ward be street wise.

THE ROLE OF ACSM AND STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION IN PREVENTATIVE AND PROMOTIVE HEALTH. • Communicate strategic health programmes to policy makers, decision makers, service providers as well communities. • Advocate, sensitize, and orientate health programmes and interventions through effective channels and mediums of communication. • Develop focused interventions that seek to change knowledge, attitude and practices at various levels. • Bring together community members and all stakeholders to strengthen participation for sustainability and self reliance.. • Promote dialogue, negotiation and consensus among stakeholders which is inclusive of decision makers, the media, NGO’s opinion leaders, policy makers, private sector etc • WHAT IS THE PURPOSE? • To establish a participatory, integrated, multi-level program • To build capacity, mobilize support and achieve measurable behavioural change in our communities Government connecting people to quality services Building blocks to better service delivery - Know your ward be street wise.

Why integration? • Experience and evidence based data shows that an integrated approach maximizes impact. • It is an effective means to incorporate both political and environmental challenges . • Integration facilities a participatory approach which allows all sectors be it economic, sectoral, spatial, social. To ensure smooth flow of information, policies and strategies. • Assist partners and donor agencies to develop and align plans to health priorities and plans. • To promote and facilitate cooperative decision making • coordination , management and oversight of advocacy, communication, social mobilization and marketing programmes and interventions. • CURRENT STRATEGIES: • Accelerated condom distribution • Targeted sectors: • 1.   10. CONCLUDING REMARKS History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they have triumphed.
