Why and When was the War fought • Why • At First Mexico wanted in Texas. • Then Mexico stop allowing people in to Texas. • There were some early clashes between Mexican Army and Texan Colonists. • Taxes were placed on new incoming settler • Slavery was outlawed • Mexico did not protect freedom of religion and required a tithe to the church. • When • The First battle was fought on Oct 2, 1835 • Last battle on April 21, 1836

  3. Where was the war fought. • Most battles were fought outside of San Antonio. • East to Galveston

  4. For the Mexican army: • General Santa Anna ( at the time we was also the President of Mexico Who fought in the war For the Texas rebels: Sam F. Austin Sam Huston Davy Crocket James Bowie

  5. Famous Battles and When they were fought • The Alamo • The battle of Gonzales • The battle of San Jacinto

  6. The Alamo • the Alamo was a mission that the Texans converted into a fort • Siege lasted 13 days • The Alamo was attacked once by each side • Casualties o f the battle: • Mexican : 400-600 killed or wounded • Texans: 185- 258 • At the battle Davy Crockett and William Travis were killed Video

  7. Outcome of the war • Texas became an independent republic and the joined the US. • About 860 Texans were killed and 2,500 Mexicans were killed. • A major cause in the Mexican- American war
