  3. The student will use prewriting strategies to generate ideas and formulate a plan. The student will write a draft appropriate to the topic, audience, and purpose. The student will revise and refine the draft for clarity and effectiveness. The student will edit and correct the draft for standard language conventions. The student will write a final product for the intended audience.

  4. Writing Applications 3 Standards

  5. The student develops and demonstrates creative writing. The student develops and demonstrates technical writing that provides information related to real-world tasks. The student develops and demonstrates persuasive writing that is used for the purpose of influencing the reader.

  6. Your child is expected to master all of the benchmarks with 70% proficiency on each one.

  7. Grading 45% of grade is from writingcompositions 35% of grade is from class work 20% of grade is from weekly spelling tests

  8. Writes Upon Request WUR Given 4 times during the year *October 6th---Expository Prompt *December 1st---Narrative Prompt *March 2nd ---Expository Prompt *May 4th ---Narrative Prompt

  9. Ways To Help Read, Read, Read Reading and Writing Go Hand in Hand As you read to/with your child…… --discuss what was read (beginning, middle, end) --have them describe the pictures they see their heads as you read --ask them what the author did to make the story enjoyable

  10. Read and discuss different types of writing. (poetry, informational text, riddles, song lyrics) Keep a journal Write lists (grocery store, items need for a trip) Talk about words/Make up word games (synonyms, antonyms, adjectives, verbs) Make extending sentences a game
