  1. State Update Presentations State of Arkansas 2012 MAGIC GIS Clearinghouse Summit Sioux Falls, SD EROS Data Center

  2. Clearinghouse Services • The Arkansas Geographic Information Office offers all the following services. • Data archival • Data distribution • Web services (WMS, WFS, ArcGIS, Imagery) • Database development/area integration • Cartographic development • Metadata development • Application development • Application hosting • Geospatial data inventory • Coordination/outreach • Training

  3. Funding The AGIO is the state geographic information clearinghouse. Our funding comes from the bi-annual state budget. Occasionally we will receive funding from other sources such as Federal grants.

  4. Challenges The greatest challenge facing the AGIO is staff turnover. Despite using off the shelf, pre-packaged software, there are components that new staff must learn.

  5. Backup architecture Currently, no written policies exist. Certain vectors whose data change often are backed up weekly, rasters are backed up at load time. We also have a remote backup performed weekly to Arkansas Department of Emergency Management and a remote backup to a server housed in the Kansas Department of Information Services data center.

  6. Database Development & Integration All of our data is gathered from local/regional entities such as cities, counties, other state agencies, and other sources. We work with individuals at these various sources to ensure updates are loaded in a timely manner, and are made available to the public as quickly as possible.

  7. Inventory We have not implemented a GIS data inventory tool not at this time.  The AGIO maintains a detailed inventory on agency specific programs such as road centerlines, address points and parcels.  We also have a joint tracking effort with USGS on elevation.

  9. Archive Policy Arkansas has not developed a record retention/archival policy for geospatial data?

  10. Technology: GIS Server AGIO is utilizing ArcGIS Server version 10.0.

  11. Technology: GIS Server AGIO is currently running ArcGIS Server version 10.0. We haven’t started any real discussions on upgrading to 10.1.

  12. Technology: GIS Server AGIO’s GeoStor product currently utilizes JavaScript and Flex Web API’s.

  13. Technology: GIS Server GeoStor does not currently utilize the ArcGIS Server Geoportal Extension?

  14. Technology: ArcGIS Online AGIO is currently publishing some maps to ArcGIS Online for use by county personnel. Using ArcGIS Online eliminates the need for us to send data to the counties on an external device for them to load to their machines.

  15. Technology: Cloud Computing AGIO currently own our own servers, and rent rack and floor space from the Arkansas Department of Information Services. We have recently started investigating the many options a Cloud based solution offers to see if any of these options are viable for us.

  16. Technology: Mobile Applications AGIO is not currently developing or planning on developing mobile applications.

  17. Additional State Content AMAP – Arkansas Master Address Program The goal of this project is to map a point for every physical address in the state of Arkansas. The county addressing authorities have been our main point of contact for this data. Currently we have 40 of 75 counties loaded into GeoStor and expect to have 13 more by the end of 2013. CAMP – County Assessors Mapping Program One-time cost share funding was made available to the counties for creation of digital parcel polygons. Counties had the option of using contracted labor for this task, or doing the job themselves. The program consists of three phases, with the delivery of the first phase due in late August. AGIO staff has been involved in quality checking the delivered data. Once that QC process was complete, mapping applications were developed in ArcGIS Online for the counties to use in their QC process. This process will be repeated for the delivery of the second and final phases as well.
