  2. Recruitment and Hiring • What are the tribal personnel policies and procedures? • any provisions for hiring underrepresented applicants? • When and where will you advertise and recruit staff? • What are the interview and hiring processes? • Criminal background check required?

  3. Preference in Employment • Preference in employment must be given to American Indians, with a special priority given to American Indians with disabilities. 34 CFR 371.43(b)

  4. Preference in Employment (cont’d) Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indians in accordance with Indian Preference Act. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification of tribal affiliation or other acceptable documentation of Indian heritage (Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473).
