  1. Report on the work of the Task Force on Visualisation Tools Dissemination Working Group meeting 7-8 May

Task Force • TF participants (Czech Republic, Denmark, ECB, Finland, Germany, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, and Eurostat) • First meeting: objectives + first criteria + library for sharing • Second meeting: in-depth discussions (IT, look& feel) on the basis of several presentations, e.g. Bilateral Exchange Rates & SDMX Visualization Framework (ECB), Inflation calculator (Germany), Making of graphs (Finland), Use of web services (Portugal), BCC and Data Explorer (Eurostat) • Continue the work of the TF

First recommendations for visualization tools • Searchable • Serve various purposes (play for fun, education, business need) • Well-defined target groups of users • Allow comparisons and link to a personal situation • Cover a repetitive and longer term requirement • Connect to live data (i.e. data bases) • Richness of functions to explore (content) and to customize (display) • Data and meta-data should accompany the graphics (also for WAI) • Providing additional info for understanding e.g. on breaks • Visually oriented Help/Demo • Output functions (print, save, bookmark: cross-media output) • Allow feedback of users

  4. Sharing tools and ideas • Library on CIRCA for ESS members to share tools • Not only ideas and concepts but also code • Open source software and SDMX as future input format • Kick-off: TGM (summary, technical docs, installation guide) • Next candidates: BCC, ECB SDMX Visualisation, and ....? The library is open to all ESS members (to re-use and to contribute)
