  4. Adverbs answer 4 Questions: • Where? Here, there, up, ahead • When? Today, never, now, later, soon • How? Slowly, fast, suddenly, sadly • To what extent? Too, very, completely, fully

  5. Adverbs can appear in different positions in sentences • The tourists boarded the bus eagerly. (after the verb) • The tourists eagerly boarded the bus. (before the verb) • Eagerly, the tourists boarded the bus. (at the beginning)

  6. Practice • Complete the practice section on your notes. • Circle all the adverbs in each sentence.

Answers to practice • Marco Polo told really wonderful tales of China. • People were very eager to hear his stories • They nearly always hung on every word. • There is a big sale at the mall. • People who shop wisely can save a great deal of money. • Emma always goes to sales • In the past, she has been very lucky with her buys. • She bought a rather expensive necklace verycheaply. • She feels happy when she finds a real deal. • She is amazingly skillful in spending and saving money.
