  2. My Big Question • How will identical plants react to being fed two different liquids: Orange juice, coffee and water?

  3. Hypothesis My guess is that the plant fed water will live the longest.

  4. Interesting Facts • The plants used in this experiment did not require much liquid to live. • The plant fed orange juice died first. • The plant fed coffee lived just as long as the plant fed water. • The plants did not require much sunlight. • The plant fed orange juice stunk really bad.

  5. The Experiment • Materials – The materials used for this experiment are three identical house plants, one-cup measuring cup, coffee, orange juice and water. • Step-by-step instructions – The steps used for this project are to feed each plant every day a specific liquid to determine how each subject reacts to that liquid and then compare results. • Control/Variables – The variables in this experiment would be the liquids fed each plant and they are coffee and orange juice. The control group is the subject plant fed water.

  6. Observations from Experiment • The plant that lived the longest and remained the healthiest was obviously the one fed water. • Not surprisingly, the plant fed orange juice died first. • To my surprise, the plant fed coffee did very well and lived as long as the one fed water.

  7. Data and Analysis of Data Each plant responded differently to each liquid it was fed. The plant that was fed water did very well. The plant fed coffee also did very well but not as good as the plant fed water. It grew during the experiment but not at the same rate of the subject fed water. The plant fed orange juice died very rapidly. The orange juice must have been too acidic.

  8. Conclusion • My hypothesis was correct. The plant fed water responded as expected and stayed alive for the duration of the experiment and even grew a bit. • If I could change something about this experiment, I would change one of the materials used. I would try using tea instead of orange juice because the orange juice was too harsh on the plant. • I still have one question after completing this experiment: Why did the plant fed coffee do so well?

  9. References The references used for this experiment were my Mom and Dad.
