  3. Getting to Know Word • Microsoft Word is a WORD PROCESSING software program • The FILEtab is the central location for managing documents and accessing templates • A TEMPLATEis a pre-defined layout for a document. Word provides templates for • Calendars • Memos • Resumes • Flyers

Getting to Know Word • Saving • SAVEallows you to resave a document when changes have been made • SAVE AS allows you to save something with a new identity, this can be name, location, file type • All assignments should be saved to your H: DRIVE in the KEYBOARDING FOLDER, then in appropriate place. • The steps to print double sided • File Tab > Print > Settings > Click Print on Both Sides

Getting to Know Word • Selecting text quickly without clicking and dragging the mouse: • Select a word DOUBLE-CLICK ANYWHERE IN THE WORD • Select a line of text put the mouse to the LEFT of the line until it changes to a right -pointing arrow, and then click • Select a paragraph TRIPLE-CLICK ANYWHERE IN THE PARAGRAPH • Select a whole document PRESS CTRL + A • Cut and paste is a way of moving things you want to keep in another location • Besides cut and paste text can beDRAGGEDand DROP

Styles & Themes • Use STYLES to format your document so you can quickly and easily apply a set of formatting choices consistently throughout your document • On the Page Layout tab, Themes set a unified format for • Font Name • Size • Color • Effects • Themes can only be applied if a STYLE has been added to text

  11. Spell Check • Spell Check on the Review tab, reviews your document for misspelling of words, not grammar errors. • Icon • Review Tab > Proofing Group • Incorrect spelling = RED WAVY UNDERLINE • Incorrect grammar & punctuation = GREEN WAVY UNDERLINE

  12. Headers & Footers • Found on Insert Tab > Header & Footer group • Insert your own headers click EDIT HEADER • Press the TAB key several times to move between items In the header NAME ACTIVITY PERIOD
