  4. Novel #1 - Chasing Lincoln’s Killer • Author Background • Identifying story elements in a novel • Vocabulary • Character Analysis

Focus Themes- The New Americans • Vocabulary/Word Study: target vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms • Comprehension: Main Idea and Details in nonfiction writing • Text Feature: Newspaper article • Grammar: identifying sentence fragments • Grammar: using ending punctuation • Writing: Expository Writing • Careers: Translator • Functional Literacy: Using a Daily Schedule

  9. Weekly Home Assignments- • Reading passage and comprehension questions that focus on: • Finding the main idea • Recalling facts • Inferencing • Synonyms/antonyms • Review vocabulary terms. Use Quizlet or Study Blue for review.

  10. Course Grades- • Separate grade for Reading and English. • Grades are determined using the following categories: - Homework - Classwork - Assessments (tests, quizzes, projects, and writing assignments)

  12. Progress Reports • Will receive quarterly like report cards. • Can be mailed, emailed, or sent home with students.
