  4. GO TO WORK TO BE YOUR BEST SELF… AND FIND THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY WORK OF DIFFERENT KINDS

  6. Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just part of the way the world works. ? So how does the world work ?

  7. TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SAILOR, RICH MAN, POOR MAN, BEGGAR MAN, THIEF… TEACHER, LAWYER, PILOT, CHEMIST, DOCTOR, DENTIST,FIREMAN, PRIEST

  8. BUILDER, BAKER, CANDLESTICK MAKER, RIDER, SINGER, DANCER, CLOWN ACTOR, AUTHOR, DRIVER, FARMER, INVENTOR, MARKSMAN, POLICEMAN, CHIEF

AT THE MOMENT, YOU CHILD ARE TREATED AS A CHILD! • BETWEEN SCHOOL AND HOME WE LOOK AFTER AND NURTURE YOU • IN PREVIOUS ERAS AND TODAY IN SOME CULTURES YOU WOULD BE MARRIED WITH CHILDREN • SOON YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DRIVE A CAR, KNOW ANOTHER PERSON IN THE BIBLICAL SENSE AND EVEN VOTE! NOW IS THE TIME FOR YOU TO LEARN HOW TO: • BE MORE INDEPENDENT • CO-OPERATE WITH OTHERS • COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY • COMPROMISE AND NEGOTIATE • USE YOUR INITIATIVE • GROW UP!

  11. ‘Work Experience’ is just that…‘experience’ of work… an Observer not Worker…

  12. To experience and apply the skills needed in working situations – ‘employability’ and ‘enterprise capability’

  13. To gain an understanding of what it is like to work a full-time week 9-5 pm, or finding out how a nursery operates and looks after small children, how companies use IT in a real business situation, working in a team, showing initiative etc. etc

  14. Why do Work Experience? • Understanding of the world of work • • See transferable skills in action • • Value of a good education • • ‘Continue with the end in mind’ • • Life changing………Why?

What will Work Experience be like? • Full working day! • Treated the same as employees – can be sacked! • Unfamiliar environments – Health and Safety issues… http://www.placementsurvivalguide.com/ • Expected not to impact on business • ‘Safe’ job roles – low skill • Ambassadors for yourself - reference • Ambassadors for the school

  16. WHAT TYPES OF W.X. ARE POSSIBLE?

  17. Easier to say what types are not: • High risk • Highly confidential • High pressure • Highly qualified Not impossible, but think laterally!

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WORK EXPERIENCE? • Your first reference – so make sure you write to the company to say thank you for the opportunity! • Knowledge of 1 or 2 careers areas • • Confirm as careers choice • • Extra motivation in school to work hard for exams and qualifications • Also… • Discover that you don’t like the area of work experienced • Need to reassess your objectives, follow up with more work experience in another field.

  20. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Let’s look at your information pack…
