  3. This is my sixth year at Macy Elementary School. I have 2 teaching credentials, one to teach general education, and a special education credential I also have a Master’s Degree in Education. I taught for the Ontario-Montclair School District for 7 1/2 years. This included grades K-6, both regular and special education classes. I taught grades K-1 SDC for the Alhambra Unified School District for 2 years. About Mrs. Ospital:

School Schedule: • All students start school at 8:30am Monday- Fridays. • Kindergarteners are dismissed at 12:50pm • 1st-3rd graders are dismissed at 3:00pm Tuesdays-Fridays. • Minimum day dismissal is on Mondays at 1:45pm for 1st-3rd grades • Please go through the office if you are bringing your child to school late, or need to pick them up early.

  5. Classroom Rules: • Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. • Follow directions. • Respect your classmates and adults in the classroom. • Respect school and personal property. • Work and play in a safe manner.

  6. Rewards for good behavior: • Good note home in our communication notebooks, or a good phone call home • Prize box • Marble celebrations • Computer Time • Stickers

  7. Consequences for bad choices: • Verbal warning • Lose a recess/note home • Time out in class • Time out in another classroom • Phone call home • Visit the office

  8. How our class runs… • We do our class work mainly in learning centers which rotate approx. every 20 min. • We have whole group activities that include language arts, science, social studies, math, language development, and art activities. • First, second and third graders will participate in P.E. with the general ed classes. • We participate in school activities such as holiday celebrations and field trips. • We also participate in all school wide activities including recess, lunch, assemblies, fire drills, disaster drills, and other scheduled events.

  9. How our class runs continued.. • Students are supervised at all times by qualified, experienced adults. • Students are expected to behave as any other student on the playground and when participating in school events. • Parents are welcome to visit our class any time. Please let Mrs. Ospital know when you would like to come by to help out! • Students will be included in grade level activities that are deemed appropriate by the classroom teacher and support team. This includes field trips. If there is any question as to if the activity is appropriate for your child, the teacher will contact you to discuss prior to the event.

  10. Snack and Lunch Procedures… All students are allowed to bring a healthy snack to school to eat at recess. We do not provide snack items. All students participate in lunch. Please send a healthy lunch to school with your child- no fast food is allowed. You may purchase a school lunch if preferred. Please have lunches delivered to the school office by 11:30am if you are bringing them during the school day. Breakfast is not provided at Macy Elementary. Please send a napkin and utensils with lunches.

Macy school wide Rules: • Students are responsible to all teachers and support staff, and need to follow directions. • Students are responsible for throwing away their own trash. • Students will receive citizenship rewards for good behavior throughout the year. • Teasing, name calling, and bullying will not be tolerated. • Respect school and private property.

  12. Homework Policies: • Every student is given homework Monday-Thursday. It needs to be turned in the following school day. • Homework is given to students at their independent instructional level. • If a homework assignment is difficult for your child or for you to understand, write us a note in your child’s communication notebook and we will finish the assignment with your child at school. • Students will receive stickers for bringing back completed homework each day. • Stickers = Prize box visit. • Excessive missing homework will result in the loss of a recess and a note home.

Communication Notebooks: • Communication notebooks need to be returned to school each day. • You do not need to write in it every day, just when you have a question or comment for the teacher. • Communication notebooks are not for student writing practice, math scratch paper, or for drawings. They are for parents and Mrs. Ospital to communicate in only.

  16. Please…..Please…. Please!!! If your child is showing flu- like symptoms, please keep them home. We will call you to come get them if you send them to school sick. Our students and staff (and our families) appreciate your attention to this matter!

  17. Any questions or concerns?? • I am available before and after school on most days if you would like to schedule a meeting with me. • I encourage you to write any questions, concerns, or just comments in your child’s communication journals. These are sent home every day. • Please call the school at any time if you need to get a hold of me- I will call you as soon as I have an opportunity to do so.

  18. Weekly Newsletters: • Mrs. Ospital sends home a weekly newsletter. • This newsletter is updated weekly with announcements, information on important events and dates to remember, and with new student of the week announcements. • These newsletters will be put in your child’s homework folders.

  19. Backpacks… • Please send your child to school each day with a regular sized backpack. • Student’s backpacks and items in it need to have their name on it. • Please check in your child’s backpack for any toys or other items that have found their way into them prior to school each day- No toys are allowed at school. • Please send any money for lunches or other fundraising items in an envelope with a note as to what the money is for and how much is enclosed. Loose money may get lost if it is not in an envelope.

  20. Photographs and videotaping: • Mrs. Ospital takes photos of students in the classroom and out at special school events throughout the school year. These photos are for school use only and will not be published or posted outside of Macy School or Lowell Joint School District without parent consent. • At the end of the school year Mrs. Ospital gives a picture CD to every family, to make prints from if they would like. • Photo permission slips have been sent home for parent signature. • Videotaping may also take place at school events for school use only. No images will be used outside of Macy School without parent permission. • If you do not want your child photographed, please let Mrs. Ospital know and we will not include your child in photographs or videos.

  21. IEP’s and Parent Conferences: • Please contact the school as soon as possible if you know that you can’t make a meeting. These meetings are important, and sometimes there are several people who are scheduled to attend them. We are happy to re-schedule for another time or day if you give us notice. • If you would like the meeting to go on without you present, or if you would like another family member to attend in your place, please note this on your meeting invitation that is sent home for you to sign to give us permisson to hold the meeting without you. Thank You!

  22. A few other things…… • We appreciate all material donations! We can always use more classroom supplies, Clorox wipes, facial tissue, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, copy paper and colored pencils. • We collect box tops for education, so send them on in! • We appreciate parent volunteers! • We only serve healthy snacks. No peanuts please!! This also applies to birthday treats please. Contact Mrs. Ospital prior to sending any treats to school please! • Fridays are spirit gear days- wear Macy tee’s!

  23. Pre-parent conferences: • I am happy to sit and discuss your child’s independent goals and needs, or any concerns/questions you may have. Please call me to schedule a time to meet either before or after school, and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule. • I will not be able to discuss specific students this evening, so ask for an appointment please! Thank you!
