  2. Comparison • Shows how items are alike or similar. • Think of the cue words from the S (synonyms) section of the SAGE vocabulary approach!

  4. Examples • Just as an athlete trains for an event, a wise student prepares for an exam. • Recovering from an addiction, like surfing a dangerous wave, requires strength and balance. • Neoclassic art and Renaissance art share many of the same traits.

  5. Contrast • Points out the way in which two or more ideas are different. • Think of the cue words from the A (antonyms) section of the SAGE vocabulary approach.
