APPLICATION TIMELINES Community College May 1st - applicant must have responded June 17th – earliest date that colleges will expect payment of tuition fees YOU CAN ONLY ACCEPT ONE OFFER AT A TIME Ontario University May 29th -receive a response June 3rd-applicantmust respond with financial commitment YOU CAN ONLY ACCEPT ONE OFFER AT A TIME

  3. No offers??Try the “Admission Information - Referral Service” Ontario secondary students applying for admission to an Ontariouniversity who do not receive an offer of admission can inquire about possible openings at other Ontario universities through the “Admission Information – Referral Service” found on the OUAC website from June 6th until August 30th. www.ouac.on.ca

No offers??Check for available programs on ontariocolleges.ca Students applying for admission to an Ontariocollege who do not receive an offer of admission can look on ontariocolleges.ca to see programs still available. Call the school to see if they are still accepting applications to that program Change your OCAS application See us in Student Services for help

  5. Returning to Nelson? You are welcome back at Nelson next year. However, if you signed up for courses for next year, but accept a post secondary offer and decide not to return, PLEASE let us know ASAP so we can remove you from next year’s roll. Many courses are already waitlisted, so you could free up a spot for someone else. Mrs Raithby will be in the foyer after this assembly if you can tell us now that you are not returning.

  6. OSAP Applications Financial assistance is available: • apply online at http://osap.gov.on.ca/ http://osap.gov.on.ca - you may also qualify for an Ontario Tuition grant; info in Student Services, or check: Ontario.ca/30off

  7. Community Involvement Hours Approx. 110 potential grads have not finished their hours! Proof of vol. hours must be brought to Student Services ASAP to be recorded. You have not graduated until this is complete! Absolute Deadline is June 1st. (or you’re not graduating until next year!) See Mrs. Pemberton in Student Services!!

Commencement 2013 INFO • Thursday, June 27th at Nelson - 7:00 p.m. - arrive no later than 6:20 for marshalling • Gown Rental Fee: - $20.00 due immediately! - give to Mrs Clement in the Main Office - participation forfeited (and tickets not provided) if fee not paid! (right now, that’s nearly 60% of you!)

  10. Valedictorian Qualities • has been involved with many aspects of Nelson High School • can represent the diverse groups within the graduating class • has achieved high academic standing • has displayed strong interpersonal skills

  11. Valedictorian Selectioncont’d • will represent the graduating class with honour and dignity • has shown integrity and respect for others • possesses public speaking skills • will continue on to further study at college, apprenticeship or university in September 2013

  12. NOMINATION PROCESS FOR VALEDICTORIANCOMMENCEMENT 2013 • A graduating student can nominate another graduating student only once. Nominations begin almost immediately and close in Student Services at 3:00 pm on Thurs., May 9th. Fill out a nomination form in Student Services.

  14. NOMINATION PROCESS FOR VALEDICTORIANCOMMENCEMENT 2013 • The three nominees from the graduating class that receive the most nominations will be considered finalists. Finalists will be announced on the morning of Fri., May 10th

  15. NOMINATION PROCESS FOR VALEDICTORIANCOMMENCEMENT 2013 • Finalists will have the opportunity to give a brief (~ 2 min.) speech to their graduating class at the Grad Assembly (part 2) and Reception on Wed. May 15th pd 5 (after lunch) in the Aud. and Cafeterias. • N.B. – after lunch on May 15th, go to class first (for attendance) and wait to be called to the Aud.

  16. NOMINATION PROCESS FOR VALEDICTORIANCOMMENCEMENT 2013 • A secret ballot will occur after the speeches. Graduates must be present to vote for the Valedictorian on May 15th. • The 2013 Valedictorian will be announced at the annual year end Recognition Assembly on June 11th.
