  3. Reorganization of the State • Russian Nationalists wanted strong “Russian” state • Several factions formed to oppose Gorbachev’s reorganization plan

  4. Chaotic Government • Struggle ensued between President and Parliament, creating an anarchic government • Boris Yeltsin has the Russian White House shelled to send a message to his opponents

  5. Democracy, Russian Style • Boris Yeltsin resigns in 1999 after major financial crisis • Vladimir Putin is put forth as next President

  6. 15 Years Later… • Western culture has poured into Russia • Over 3 million illegal drugs users • Many reminisce about the good times of the Soviet Union
