  4. Funding through the Government Relations Office over the past 10 years: $85 Million in State Funding(Legislative & BFTDA) $40 Million in Federal Congressional funding

Effective Government Relations • Present clear, credible and compelling requests that meet both government and institution agendas. • Engage with legislators and staff when you are not asking for something. • Bring legislators and staff on campus • Try to help agencies to achieve their missions. • Develop multi-faceted relationships with government officials

Effective Government Relations • Integrate into primary university mission and goals • Identify and engage key faculty and university leaders for the team • Practice both tenacity and patience for this multi-year process • Develop a clear internal process to identify and select legislative priorities • Develop an advocacy team of university officials, business and government partners and perhaps…. lobbyists.
