  2. Importance of CT- Angiography • Doctors use angiography to detect and treat problems with the cardiovascular system's blood vessels. Angiography procedures capture images of the body's major arteries. Contrast material is used in some diagnostic procedures. • To do angiograms, doctors use:-  • Catheterized x-rays • CT scans, or computed tomography • Imaging with a magnet and radio waves To create high-resolution images of blood arteries and surrounding tissues, CT angiography uses computed tomography (CT). Contrast material is administered through a catheter into an arm vein during the exam. While the contrast material is pumped through the patient's veins and arteries, a CT scan will be performed to obtain high-resolution images. What is the process like?

  3. Traditional X-ray imaging and CT scanning share many commonalities. In standard X-ray imaging, a single X-ray source fires a beam of rays across the patient's body. A detection plate captures the X-rays emitted from the body. The image will appear in varying colors of grey depending on how much X-ray light is blocked by various human organs. On an X-ray, bones appear white, while air looks dark. In CT scans, several X-ray beam sources and arrays of X-ray detectors spin rapidly around the patient's body. The X-ray beam sources send multiple narrow beams with high energies through the body. The detectors detect the X-rays released from the body and will be rolled through the CT scanner to expose various body parts to the scanner's X-ray beams. After collecting data from the scanner, a powerful computer will use it to create images of the human body.  The computer generates two- and three-dimensional images of the body from a vast amount of CT scan data. Radiologists will use high-tech computer software and display to examine these images for signs of disease. To see the blood arteries clearly, contrast material is used during procedures to make them seem stark white.

  4. How should one be prepared for CT- Angiography • Dress loosely and comfortably for the exam. • The CT pictures may be distorted if the patient wears metal objects such as jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, or hairpins.  • Underwired bras made of metal must be removed. You should stop getting pierced. • Your doctor will suggest you fast for a certain amount of time before your exam if contrast material is used.  • Inform your doctor about undergoing medications or any allergies. Your doctor may give drugs (often steroids) to lessen the likelihood of an adverse reaction if you have a history of sensitivity to contrast material.  • If a woman has any reason to suspect she is pregnant, she should tell both her doctor and the CT tech.

  5. The Importance of CT Angiography Detailed images of the inside of your head, neck, body, legs, and arms help doctors diagnose. It is non-invasive, precise, and rapid, and it may be used in real-time to monitor the condition of blood arteries during surgical procedures. While CT scans expose patients to radiation, the amount absorbed by the body is negligible. • Avoid surgery using angiograms. Accuracy in surgery is improved if it is still required.

  6. When compared to traditional angiography, CT angiography has the advantages of being quick, painless, and less prone to problems. • Compared to more traditional forms of angiography, such as catheter angiography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), CT angiography can offer more accurate anatomical data. • Sedation or general anaesthesia is unnecessary for CT angiography. • Coronary artery blockages can be detected via CT angiography of the heart. • CT angiography may be less expensive than catheter angiography. • After a CT exam, the patient is exposed to no residual radiation. • Protecting Yourself from Radiation: A Word • During X-ray examinations, doctors take extra precautions to limit radiation exposure while capturing clear images for diagnosis. The procedures followed by radiologists are subject to constant scrutiny and revision by national and international radiological protection organizations.

  7. Controlled X-ray beams and dose control procedures are used in modern X-ray systems to reduce the amount of unwanted stray (scatter) radiation. This reduces radiation exposure to parts of your body that aren't being scanned. CT angiography will be performed with as little radiation as possible using scan parameters customized to your body. Scan areas will be restricted to the target organ to reduce exposure to unneeded radiation.
