  3. POST SECONDARY = COLLEGE READY • CTE CERTIFICATIONS • TECHNICAL TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS • MILITARY CAREER • ASSOCIATE DEGREE (2 year degree) • BACHELOR DEGREE (4 year degree) • GRADUATE DEGREES • Master’s Degree (4 year degree + 2) • Doctoral Degree (Bachelor’s + Master’s + 2 years)

  4. Here’s What You Need to Know! • What is a passing grade? • What is a credit? • What is a transcript? • What is a graduation plan?

High School Graduation 26 Credits INCLUDE: • English: 4 Credits • Mathematics: 3 Credits • Science: 3 Credits • Social Studies: 3 Credits • Physical Education: 1 Credit • Languages Other Than English: 2 Credits • Fine Arts: 1 Credit • Electives: 5 Credits • with an Endorsement • Start your high School Classes in 8th grade.

  6. What Graduation plans are available in GISD? • Foundation (Minimum) • Foundation w/Endorsement (Recommended) • Foundation w/Endorsement + Performance Acknowlegement(Distinguished) Choosing a plan will depend on if you want to take AP/DC classes and more demanding classes.

  7. 8th Grade ClassesEveryone will have a 7 period day 4 Core Subjects ELA 8th grade Math 8th grade Science Social Studies All 8th Grade electives are high school credit!!!! • English I • Algebra I • F&W, Dance or Athletics PE CREDIT • Art, Choir, Band, or Theater ArtsFINE ARTS CREDIT • GTT Gateway to Technology ELECTIVE CREDIT • Spanish I or Spanish I AP Foreign Language Credit OR High School Credit Options

Some of the opportunitiesfor 8th graders: • Gateway to Technology • This is a class focusing on science, technology, engineering and math. • Spanish IV AP • If you are already a Spanish speaker you will have the opportunity to take a screening test to determine your admittance to the class THEN YOU COULD EARN 4 CREDITS OF HIGH SCHOOL SPANISH BY PASSING THE FINAL AP EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE

Why Should I Start Taking High School Classes Now? • To get a head start on your credits! • To give you more room in your schedule to take electives like fine arts or career-prep classes • You will have opportunities to take more college classes! • Get started on your GHS credits in 8th grade!
