  2. Language • Inuit language is called Inukitut • 90,000 people know Inukitut • It is similar to the Yupik language • Sylabary and the Latin alphabet are the two ways to speak Inukitut

  3. Words • Hello is Ai or Ainngai in Inukitut • Goodbye is Tavvaujuki in Inukitut • Inuit means the people in Inukitut

  4. Writing • An upside down triangle means ai • An upright triangle means I • A triangle that its tip is facing left means u • A triangle that its tip is facing right means pai • The Inuits write in sylabary

  5. Marriage • Special ceremony • They get married at the age 17 up • Family members and friends come to the ceremony

  6. Family • Move close to family • When building house they have family help • On holidays family get together and have a meal

  7. Work • Women made clothes • Men made tools • Children help build their home

  8. Spirits • They believe every object and human being has a spirit. • Spirits are not good or bad but have effects on the thing. • Shamans can control this spirit with the correct charms.

  9. Gods • Seda goddess of the sea. • Say a prayer for her and she’ll give you a good hunt, if not she’ll keep the animals away. • Annigan, the moon god • Chases his sister (the sun goddess) across the sky.

  10. Holidays • They celebrate some holidays on the Christian calendar. • There is a feast called Pottoatch where family and friends all get together.
