  3. Types of Learners • Visual Learners: • Learn Through Seeing...   • Auditory Learners • Learn Through Listening….     • Kinesthetic Learners • Learn Through Moving, Doing & Touching

Types of Learners • What does this mean? • Clinics must be multi faceted • Reading the rule book is not enough • Visual Aids should include • PowerPoint With Highlights • Handouts (Rule Books) must have detail • Seeing Visual Examples goes a long way • Some officials will not get it until they see it themselves

  5. Instructor vs. Facilitator • Instructor: • Leads Discussions • Teaches Technical Points • Facilitator • Guides Conversations • Seeks Impute and Guides Discussions Realty is that a Clinic Leader must be good at both of these!

Clinic Leaders • Clinic Leaders should be good at: • Rules and Mechanics • The best official does not make the best instructor • Should Practice what they preach • Reading a Room • Is group engaged • Controlling a Room • Are there side conversations • IMPORTANT – Great “Rules Guys” does not necessarily make a good instructor or clinic leader

  7. Different Clinic Activities • Video Review • Use Proper Set up and Discloser • Mechanics Stations • Quiz Reviews • Different Clinics for New Officials vs Veterans • Anonymous Questions and Answer • Multiple Instructors • Start new facilitators on easy topic

Do’s and Don’ts Do’s • Be Prepared • Solicit Questions • Have a variety at each Clinic • Use Multiple teaching tools • Do more than just the rules at each session • Keep it fresh • Have Fun Don’ts • Read the rule book only • Let veterans talk about plays from games 30 years ago • Use Technology you are not familiar with • Make fun of officials who made mistakes

  9. Presentation Tips • Establish Learning Objectives for each Clinic • Be Prepared • Make Eye Contact • Walk the Room • Keep PowerPoint's Simple & Clutter Free • Use Graphics that are relevant

  10. Presentation Tips • Use Remote Presenter • Black out screen to gain people’s attention on key points • Never leave a question unanswered unless 100% needed • Use a parking lot concept to issues or questions you need to address at another time
