  1. INFOBIOMED NoE Activity work plan - first 12 months Activity code and title: 4.1 Data characteristics and ontologies Responsible partner: ??? Activity objectives: "Analysis of the characteristics and the formats of the most usual types of data used in BI and MI. Study of the possible mutual contributions of BI and MI with regards to data representation. Research on medical and biological data standards and vocabularies and the integration possibilities between them. Analysis of possible semantic mapping between existing ontologies in the MI and BI fields" Expected results (at least one to be delivered within first 6 months; include contributions to WP deliverables as set on page 61 of DOW): Month 6: Summary of key data types relevant to BI and MIMonth 6: Summary of major limitations with current BI and MI data typesMonth 12: Selection of data types to prioritize for standardization and integrationMonth 12: Selection of suitable ontologies to prioritize for data integration effortsMonth 12: Pilot studies into how to achieve select data integration Relationships with other activities (input/output): Helps defines challenges for WP4.2 Integrating approaches

  2. INFOBIOMED NoE Activity work plan schedule Activity code and title: 4.1 Data characteristics and ontologies Brief description of work to be done during the full 12 months: Each BIOINFORMED group will help assemble a list of what data types and challenges are most urgent and/or critical. This will lead to a summary document. Guided by that document, efforts will be made by specific groups to select few data types/challenges to create solutions for. These solutions will entail an initial plan of action, and then pilot work to devise strategies for making the chosen data integration actually happen. Details of work to be done in first 6 months: A summary document of MI and BI data types and key data challenges will be constructed. This will be accomplished by all groups with relevant expertise and experience first creating a list of current BI and MI activities that need to be better integrated and why. Email and teleconference modes will then be used to coordinate drafting and polishing a summary document. This document will include proposals for prioritizing which data integration efforts we should next provide practical solutions for.
