  1. Air Pollution Gremlins

  2. Lumpy Lead (Pb) • Metal Processing Plants, Manufactured Products, Virtually eliminated in exhaust • Remains in the body, harmful to children, fish and wildlife • Recycle metals properly

  3. Odious Ozone (O3) • Motor vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions • Bad ozone is created by a reaction of Nitrogen Oxide and Volatile Organic Compounds in the presence of sunlight = smog • Breathing difficulty, harm to plants

  4. Fossil fuel combustion at power plants and industries One of the leading pollutants that cause ACID RAIN Causes harm to respiratory system, can yellow plants, decays iron and steel Smelly Sulfur Dioxide (SO2)

  5. Forms from car/motor vehicle emissions, power plants Major player in forming ground level ozone Harms the respiratory systems, damages to plants and metals, causes a smelly brown haze Nasty Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2)

  6. Pesky Particulate Matter • Mixture of small particles and liquid droplets • Made up of acids, organic chemicals, metals, soil, dust, smoke • Size of particles is directly related to health concerns – the smaller particles can be inhaled and cause serious health effects

  7. Colorless, odorless gas emitted from combustion engines (like a car) Extremely dangerous when fuels are burned in an enclosed space Can cause dizziness, headaches, lack of oxygen delivery to major organs, death Cranky Carbon Monoxide
