This is not your Average college course • You may not meet face-to-face (courses with an N, G, or Y in their section code have 1 or less meetings) • You will spend a lot of time on the computer and reading • You will also use the computer to interact with your classmates and instructor via various tools

This is not your Average college course • Typically, most work will be done asynchronously (you will not have to be logged on at a particular time) • The Instructor may act more as a Guide-on-the-Side than Sage-on-a-stage (there may be no traditional lectures) • Everyone will have equal opportunity (and responsibility) to interact in class discussions

  5. Flexibility = Responsibility • Though you may have weekly deadlines, you will usually have great flexibility on when you can do your coursework • But, it takes self-discipline to get the work done • Most successful online students advise that you should login nearly every day

  16. What is CourseDen? • CourseDen:The online course delivery system for the University System of Georgia (Also know as: Georgia View Vista 8, WebCT Vista 8, Blackboard Vista 8)

  17. Accessing CourseDen: 4 Ways • Access Point from CourseDen homepage: http://webct.westga.edu/ • Log on link to CourseDen from UWG homepage at http://www.westga.edu – Click Log On • Course tab at MyUWG: http://myuwg.westga.edu • Direct URL- https://westga.view.usg.edu/

  18. CourseDen Username & Password Your password consists of the last 2 digits of the year you were born and the last 4 digits of your social security number (Last2Last4) Your CourseDenuser nameis your myUWG e-mail username (lower case, everything before the @)

  19. Vital: Browser Check All faculty, staff, and students should run and complete the Check Browser before proceeding to their courses.

  20. Discussion board(AKA Bulletin Board) • The Discussion Tool allows students to: • Compose & reply to public or private group messages • Search for messages

  21. Creating a message • Click Create Messageonly when you want to BEGIN a threaded conversation (new subject). Otherwise, choose Reply. • You can customize font size, add attachments, utilize an equation editor (allows math problems to typed), and preview your message.

  22. Reply to a Message • To REPLY to a message, click the REPLY button below the message text. • One can also choose to Forward (goes to recipients Mail)

  23. CourseDen Mail Tool • The Private Mail system provides four main functions for CourseDen mail messages • Sending • Reading • Searching • Filing messages

  24. Mail Tool = only works in CourseDen • All: Contains all messages • Draft: Contains all unsent messages • Inbox: Contains all received messages • Outbox: Contains all sent messages

  25. Adding / Browsing for Recipients Use the "Browse for Recipients"button to bring up a list of class participants. Do nottype the recipient's name in the Send Totextbox – this will reject your message

  26. Attaching a File Click on Add Attachments from your message window Select My Computer to select file Select Your Location Click on the file in the pop up window to attach and click OPEN

  28. Calendar Tool • Allows users to view, add, edit the daily schedule and post messages. • Also useful for students, teaching assistants, and instructors to exchange information about course-related events quickly and effectively.
