Mrs. Harper • Charper@kyrene.org • Classroom Phone: 480-541-6983 • Graduated with my bachelors in Education from Arizona State University • Attended the I teach AZ certification program/student taught at Paloma Elementary • Hold both K-8 certification and endorsed in middle grades English Language Arts • 3rd year teaching • 1st year at Pueblo (previously at Monte Vista Elementary)
Supplies • 1 inch three ring binder • 1 subject wide lined spiral notebook • Two-pocket folder • Wide lined loose leaf paper (not college ruled) • Pens and pencils • Thin tip markers or red pens for correcting
HOMEWORK • Homework is posted daily on the homework board in class • Homework is also posted online on my classroom webpage • Students should record homework daily in their Pueblo agenda
Pearson Curriculum: My Perspectives • Consumable workbook provided per unit (stored in ELA binder) • Activities broken into whole class, small group and independent learning experiences • Performance will consist of quick writes, comprehension checks, projects and presentations • Cumulative writing based performance task per unit
Language Arts Focus • Analyzing an essential question for each unit • Citing textual evidence to support analysis • Writing text based explanatory essays utilizing Thinking Maps • Incorporating research skills • Creating multimedia presentations • Comparing and contrasting texts • Ongoing practice of grammar and vocabulary skills
Independent Reading • Library visits every two weeks during class • Library is also available before school and during lunch hour • Students are required to bring a novel to class • Novel reflection due once per quarter • 20-30 minutes of reading per night is recommended
Student expectations • Students are required to utilize their Pueblo agenda to record homework daily • Be prepared for class with needed supplies and homework on due date • Bring a novel to class daily • Following school and classroom expectations • Cell phone use at teacher discretion for education purposes only • Stay organized with binder/materials being used for ELA only
Grading Guidelines • Literature and Writing assessments will be graded using a four point rubric • Kyrene District guidelines: 80% assessments 20% practice Assessments and practice may include things such as: quizzes and tests, writing assignments, projects, presentations, quick writes, comprehension checks, homework and grammar warm-ups
Stars/7B Team Information! • No late homework accepted • Absent students must make up work as many days as the student was absent-it is the students responsibility • No extra credit work is provided • All students need to bring to class: dry erase markers, highlighters, colored pencils, notebook paper, pencils, pens, and scissors • There are additional supplies specifically needed per class • Classroom supply donations always needed: Kleenex, sanitizer, antibacterial wipes, copy paper!
