  1. 8th Grade Bell Work- Monday 18, 2013 Copy “Topic/Homework” into planner Remember- for every voice that is heard after the bell, you will have to stay 5 seconds! Page 56- Bell Work 11/18: Please pick up the paper from the front and begin reading (both sides) After reading, please complete the following: 1. Please write a response to each article that includes not only a summary of the information presented, but also a reflection of how it makes you feel or what you think. Those of you who have Science Fair stuff for me, please turn it in now!

  2. Directions: Get Creative! You will be manipulating different parts of an elephant based on directives given on each slide. Write down how you chose to respond to each prompt and why you think it is a good idea. The underlined letters spell out SCAMPER- please copy them down as you respond to each image. *Remember- all organisms need to survive to pass on their genes! “SCAMPER” activity Page 59 in notebook

  3. Substitute- What else could be used to replace an elephant’s trunk? *Is anything like something else? What similarities do you see? What might be substituted? What might be used instead?

  4. Combine- What might be combined with its tail? How would this benefit the elephant?

  5. Adapt- What might you change if it lived in the ocean? Why would an elephant need this change?

  6. Modify- How might you change the color of the elephant? Why?

  7. Put to other uses- What else could the tusks be used for besides defense?

  8. Eliminate- What adaptation could be removed yet still allow for the survival of the elephant?

  9. Rearrange- How might you rearrange the body parts of the elephant? (It has to still be able to live.) Why did you choose to arrange it this way?

  10. Now create your own! Super Hero Plants and Animals • Directions: On a sheet of copy paper, design and draw your own new species of plant or animal. (No stick figures.) Give your plant/ animal at least 5 traits that will help it survive in its environment. • On the back of the paper, list the 5 traits you chose and explain how it will help the organism to survive. • Rules: the animal does not have to be real, but the traits must be non-magical. • Use the whole page and lots of color!
