  2. Presentation: Procedures for describing the pictures For the interlocutor: Step 1: Give general instructions to candidates. (P134.) Step 2: Give specific instructions to Candidates A and B. (P134-136.) • Instruction to Candidate A: describing the two pictures for about one minute. • Instruction to Candidate B: answering a question. • Instruction to Candidate B: describing the two pictures for about one minute. • Instruction to Candidate A: answering a question.   3. Presentation: Procedures for describing the pictures For the candidates: Step 1: Provide some basic knowledge or background related to the topic inherent in the pictures. Step 2: Describe the pictures: What is the picture about? Come to the point directly. Step 3: Compare and evaluate: Find out the similarities and differences, the problem or theme through the comparison and make necessary remarks on the problem or theme. Step 4: Make a brief summary: Give your opinions and make a restatement of the theme. Extended verbal expressions School of Foreign Studies

Topic One:Environment Background information • According to the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), sulfur dioxide emissions in 2005 increased by 27.8 percent over that in 2000 instead of dropping while the COD fell 2.1 percent from 2000 rather than 10 percent. • Water pollution has been worsening. Twenty-six percent of surface water can not be used for any purpose, 62 percent is not suitable for fish and 90 percent of the rivers running through cities are polluted. School of Foreign Studies

  5. Background information • When people think about air pollution, they usually think about smog, acid rain, CFC's, and other forms of outdoor air pollution. But did you know that air pollution also can exist inside homes and other buildings?
