  21. How will you spend $432,000? Half Half The remainder 50% is unrestricted and may be used for: scholarships, endowments, or annual operating needs Camps must use at least 50% of Chai Match funds for: • capital improvements or • facility enhancements

  22. Chai Match Grant Process Application • List of eligible camps on website • On-line application available now (see e-mail invitation)

  23. Questions on the Application • Describe your Camp's previous success with Grinspoon Institute matching campaigns • Describe the proposed use of the funds raised in the Chai Match campaign • How does the timing of the Chai Match campaign align with your Camp's other strategic fundraising goals? • What percentage of your Camp's Board has supported the Camp financially in the last year? • Is the Camp Board and staff aware of the work involved, and committed to achieving success in the Chai Match? • Who is the volunteer leader who will be coordinating this match program? Who is the staff person administering this match program?

  24. Chai Match Grant Process Phase 1 Gifts • Send signed pledge letters from Donors and Phase 1 Report to Grinspoon Institute no later than October 18, 2011. • Collect cash and submit proof of payments to Grinspoon Institute by March 18th, 2012.

  26. Fundraising Hints Phase 1 Phase 2 Start asking for and collecting pledges on phase 2 gifts as soon as possible. Use visits to camp over the summer to inspire Phase 2 gifts from grandparents, parents, and alumni Identify a major donor to help “close” phase 2 to finish (before March 18. 2012). • Start cultivating major donors now • Make a fundraising plan with your mentor • Proceed with a campaign even if you don’t get the Chai Match • Incorporate Chai Match in 2011 annual fundraising strategy

  27. Questions: • Yes, but 1.) be careful of how you describe the matching pool to donors, and 2.) Grinspoon funds capped at $54,000. • Yes, but it isn’t the intent of the grant. We are looking for Camps who will use the campaign to reach out to more Alumni and camp supporters and increase the base of philanthropic support for camp. • A thoughtful fundraising strategy for this campaign. A current and compelling need. • Go for it, but plan accordingly. Speak with your mentor about strategies. Grinspoon payment of the Phase 1 match is dependent on receiving proof of payment of Phase 2 gifts. This will have budget implications. Can the Campaign be larger? Can a few major donors fulfill Phase 2 and finish the whole campaign quickly? What are you looking for in a “competitive application”? What if we take a risk to reach out to more Alumni in phase 2 and don’t meet our full goal?
