Arinc424 specification • Arinc424: “Navigation System Data Base” • sets forth the air transport industry’s recommended standards for the preparation of airborne navigation system reference data files. • Version 1 published in May 1975 • Version 19 published in December 2008 – applicable today • Arinc424 committee • 1 regular meeting per year to discuss on A424 change proposals ARINC 424A specification and SESAR WP9.31

Arinc424 specification • TheArinc424 specifies a format of navigation (and communication) data. • Plain text - lines of 132 alphanumeric characters • Navigation data: Airports, Runways, Navaids, Procedures • Communication data: Com Services (ATIS…) • The Arinc424 scope is not restricted to FMS data – it also includes data for Flight Planning systems, Simulation tools… ARINC 424A specification and SESAR WP9.31

NDBX concept / Arinc424-A • Since 2006, a technical group formed inside AEEC has been studying the feasibility to define and standardize an open source format for embedded navigation databases => NDBX • based on the content of Arinc424 v.19 but restricted to FMS perimeter • relying on a new UML model and on XML & Binary XML representation of the data • In 2008, the decision was taken by the AEEC to merge the existing Arinc424 specification and the NDBX standard => Arinc424-A ARINC 424A specification and SESAR WP9.31

Eurocontrol’s involvement in Arinc424A • 2006-2007: Eurocontrol participated in the initial NDBX committee and shared AIXM experience with the group • 2007-2009: A Business Rules Working Group was formed inside the NDBX Committee, led by Eurocontrol and tasked with the development of an initial set of validation rules. • 2010-2012: Eurocontrol continues to support the development of the A424A specification through its contribution to SESAR project 9.31. ARINC 424A specification and SESAR WP9.31

SESAR WP9.31 “Aeronautical Databases” • Scope of WP 9.31 • Structure and content of Navigation, Airport, Terrain & Obstacle DB • Evolutions of the database production chain (focus on data integrity, performance…) • WP9.31 includes some interaction with the ARINC424A standardisation group for the integration of new navigation database requirements ARINC 424A specification and SESAR WP9.31
