  2. Script • Poetry has been around for centuries • Well-loved by some, not-so-loved by others • Stigma of not understanding, over-analyzing, or not caring

  3. Script • It may seem old or out of touch • Although there are some poets that will always be loved • Poets have a way of describing the world through new eyes.

  4. Script • How is poetry different today? • Poetry today has a new spin!Your local library is an excellent resource... • It can be beneficial to young children for several reasons:

  5. Script • Establishing early literacy • Recognizing rhythm, rhyme, and beats • and contributing to the enjoyment of reading and listening skills

  6. Script • The powerful poets of today sometimes use drawings, paintings and pictures, and art to enhance the poetry experience

  7. Script • Poetry is created in all kinds of ways, in all sorts of places, by many different kinds of people

  8. Script • Poems can be about literally anything- • From mountain climbing, • to deep-sea diving. • From chocolate cake, • to roller skates!

  9. Script • Poetry is even found in the rhyme and rhythms in music. • Poetry is an exciting tool for helping young children learn about the world… • and reading it can become a lifelong pleasure and joy!
