  2. SUBJECT: Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) CLASS: Form 1 TIME: 70mins. periods over four (4) weeks. TOPIC: Introduction to Traditional Carnival Characters of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T)to be used as an Integrated Arts Project (IAP).

  3. PROBLEM Students are unaware of the Traditional Carnival Characters of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T).

  4. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE Students are already aware of how to use computer hardware and software and the internet.

  5. GENERAL OBJECTIVE Students will use technology to source, analyze, organize and present their findings of Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T.

  6. RELATIVE ADVANTAGE Pictorial and written information of Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T are more accessible on the internet. An opportunity to experience a wider range of Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T through print and audiovisual resources.

  7. RELATIVE ADVANTAGE cont’d To engage in the digital classroom scenario by means of technological tools (voki, digital cameras, internet...) Use the technology as an assessment tool to determine students' level of learning via classroom footage and blogs.

  8. OBJECTIVESStudents will be able to: Apply their research skills to source reliable information. To apply knowledge of the technological tools to compile data on Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T. Identify names and corresponding images of Traditional Carnival Characters T&T.

  9. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONStudents will: Session 1: View archive footage of Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T using laptop and overhead projector to identify names and corresponding images. E-journal reflections via blogs/school website.

  10. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONStudents will: Session 2: Engage in guided group research on Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T via the internet using selected search engines/websites. Source musical accompaniment, materials to create costumes and appropriate theatrical presentation relevant to researched characters E-journal reflections via blogs/school website.

  11. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONStudents will: Session 3: Use reliable software to format and present information sourced in a power point or slide show presentation possibly using a voki. Record the creative VAPA processes using still images and digital footage while students work on their individual characters. E-journal reflections via blogs/school website.

  12. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONStudents will: Session 4: Complete creative processes: costumes, musical accompaniment and theatrical presentation. Record dress rehearsal of IAP.

  13. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONStudents will: Session 5: Present a theatrical performance authentic to selected Traditional Carnival Characters of T&T and digitally recorded to review their performance assessment. E-journal reflections via blogs/school website.

  14. PREPARATION OF INSTRUCTIONAL ENVIRONMENT Create a Bookmark/Favorites file. Prepare research handout. Ensure Hardware and Software are classroom ready. Teacher would have a vocabulary list of related terms to assist students with reading disabilities. Develop Assessments: Create rubrics for assessing technology used and recorded performances for critique.

  15. ASSESSMENT A checklist of criteria in the selection of reliable sites Rubric to assess PowerPoint/Slide show presentations, use of projectors and digital recording devices. Visual presentations of information sourced and recorded performances. A journal entry on one of the sharing sites set up by the school (blogs/wikispaces).

  16. REFLECTION Speak to students about the gains and the challenges encountered and obtain suggestions on how to make the learning experience more student friendly.
