Plan: Stalin’s plan to industrialize Soviet Union. FAILS. • Friedrich Engles: co-author of Communist Manifesto. • Joseph Stalin: Dictator of USSR, 1924-1953.

  6. Russian Revolution CAUSES (1917-1921) CZARIST RULE: Nicholas II used harsh tactics to stop reform. Secret Police(Political) PEASANT UNREST: Poverty. No social mobility. Starvation. Uneducated population. (Social, Economic) URBAN WORKERS: Long hours, low wages. Slums, poverty, disease. (Social, Economic) DIVERSITY AND NATIONALISM: Czars controlled groups and minorities. Believed in RUSSIFICATION (political)
