  1. The Nature of Energy Motion, Force & Energy Chapter 5.1 Pages 140-145

  2. What is Energy? • Energy is the ability to do Work or cause a change • Measured in Joules, like Work

  3. Kinetic Energy • Kinetic Energy is the energy of motion • All moving objects have Kinetic Energy (KE) • What determines an object’s KE? • Mass & Velocity determine the KE of an object.

  4. Potential Energy • Potential Energy (PE) is stored energy • It has the potential or “possibility” to do work • Gravitational PE is energy that depends on height • Elastic PE is for objects that can be stretched.

  5. Mechanical Energy • Energy associated with motion (KE & PE)

  6. Thermal Energy • Energy of particles in an object

  7. Chemical Energy • Energy stored in chemical bonds

  8. Electrical Energy • Moving electric charges

  9. Electromagnetic Energy • Waves of energy, such as light

  10. Nuclear Energy • The fusion or fission of atoms
