  5. New Organizing Initiatives • SBI Bank Nepal : MNC , India ( priority ) • NIC Bank Targeted Banks: • Bank of Kathmandu ( joint venture with SIAM com bank , Thailand ) • Nepal Investment Bank ( joint venture with Indoswez bank , France )

Our focus on SBI • It has a largest network of all the private banks. • The decision of the SAFSUC meeting of organizing in the SBI bank was also the motive for organizing. • It is a multinational company so organizing this is also in our priority. • Among the private banks , it has the highest member density.

  7. Reason for focusing private sector • The public bank are being privatized which means the government is in favour of the policy of privatization. • More and more multinationals banks are operating in the country with the joint venture with local banks. • The workers in the private banking sector are prone to exploitation and labour law violence. • Lack of decent work ; job opportunity , job security , social security , poor industrial relation , discrimination . • The growing threat of globalization and operation of global giant banks .

Goals of campaigns • Organizing member in the private banks . • Establishing the rights of the workers through the union • To build good industrial relation through collective bargaining and social dialogue . • Capacity enhancement of the members . • Improved industrial relation will ensure increased productivity as well as the better working condition of the workers. • Establish decent work through organizing.

Organizing Strategies : • Mapping: ( identifying target group , area , problem , threats , opportunities , strength and weakness ) • One on one communication: • Group Discussion: • Focus group discussion: • Training and educating the target groups. • Publication of brochure , pamphlets , online campaigns • Ad hoc committee formation and Signature campaigning , membership distribution and constitution formulation procedures. • Registration process. • Collective bargaining agreements.

Resources • Money : • union’s internal funds • National centers ( FIEUN , NTUC –I ) • Global Union ( UNI ) • Support from the solidarity support organization. • Manpower : • Union officials • Resource persons ( Internal and external ) • General members , members network • Other manpower hired as per necessity .

Tactics • Social Dialogue with employer’s federation ( Nepal Banker’s Association ) • Creation of hope in members by providing opportunities. • Positive utility of the international networks. • Encouraging the union social responsibility . • Approaching and influencing through regulatory bodies. • The concept of cooperative to keep the membership intact. • The celebration of the 20th anniversary to be used as the organizing year. • The grouping of different unions in separate councils . • The award of collective bargaining award both to the management and unions both. • The regular publication of the union used as the tools of awareness to the members and as a medium to involve the employers .

Barriers and challenges • Negative attitude of the employers. • Saturated work pressure upon the employees. • Labour law not being effectivelyimplemented. • Poor state monitor. • Members close align with the management • Threats of fire . • Superiority feeling within the workers because of the attractive financial package. • Lack of awareness among the workers in the private sectors. • Multiplicity of unions.
