  1. Welcome 6th Grade Track 1 Math Mrs. Mullen ~ 2011-2012~

  2. Math Curriculum • Focus on 5 goals: Rational numbers, geometry, coordinate graphing, probability, and algebra. • The goals are reached through focus lessons, center activities, individual and group activities and common assessments.

  3. Homework Homework is used as a practice in order to reinforce daily lessons, as well as assist students on assessments. Students will record the homework assignments for Math in their agendas and the Table of Contents in the math spiral. Students are expected to complete homework daily and work should be shown always. Students will be given homework Monday through Friday and will consist of 5 and 25 questions. Homework is checked daily for accuracy and completion. The number correct is record in the grade book each day.

  4. Formative and Summative Assessment Formative Assessment Is part of the instructional process. It provides the information needed to adjust teaching and learning while they are happening. One distinction is to think of formative assessment as "practice." We do not hold students accountable in "grade book fashion" for skills and concepts they have just been introduced to or are learning. We must allow for practice. Formative assessment helps teachers determine next steps during the learning process. Summative Assessment These are given periodically to determine at a particular point in time what students know and do not know. Summative assessments are an accountability measure that are used as part of the grading process.

  5. Grading System • Formative Assessments(Graded and will show up in SPAN with no weight) • Daily Warm–Up / Skills Check • Homework • Classwork • Summative Assessments (Graded and will show up in SPAN ) • Unit assessments (Objective Specific) • Quarterly review assessments

  6. Grading Scale A 100-93 B 92-85 C 84-77 D 76–70 F 69-0

  7. Rework/Retake Policy • Any student who scores less than an 80% on a summative assessment may rework/retake that assessment to earn up to an 80%. • The rework/retake will usually be done during working lunch OR students can come in before school (6:45) upon request to make corrections on an assessment.

  8. Grade Sheets and Span • Grade sheets will be sent home for all core classes about every three weeks. Please make sure you sign them and send them back in with your child so we know you are aware of your child’s grade. • SPAN allows access to your child’s grades anytime.
