  4. CONSTRUCTION The castle consists of two main buildings ring. The inner ring contains the main rooms of the castle. In the Southern area were built new rooms to be connected to the central block. There are towers at regular intervals around the walls. Alnwick Castle has two parks. A small crossed by the river Aln and a smaller one called "The Pastures".

HISTORY • 1172 – 1174: Was besieged by William "The Lion" of Scotland • 1309: The castle was sold by Anthony Bek, bishop of Durham, to the family • Pery Counts and Dukes of Northumberland. • 1404 – 1405: Henry IV besieged and took the castle. • 1463: Alnwick passed into the hands of Lancaster.

  6. In the second half of the eighteenth century Robert Adam brought changes to the structure. Even today you can admire the work of Adam.

  7. Current use Since World War II parts of the castle welcome school facilities. The castle was used for scenes of the film "Harry Potter," "Robin Hood," and others. The castle is open to the public during the summer and is the residence of the Dukes of Northumberland.
