  1. The Engineering Design Process Aka experimental design

  2. ? ? ? 1. Ask • Define the need or the problem • Conduct research (previous) • Think about time, cost & safety restraints ? ? ?

  3. 2. Imagine • Brainstorm- what does this mean? • Analyze options – what can I do to test the hypothesis? “Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of manImagine all the peopleSharing for the world.”

  4. 3. Plan • Draw a model or build a prototype • Make a materials list • Delegate responsibilities

  5. 4. Create • What will my hypothesis be? • Draw a model and carefully plan your experiment • Make a materials list • Analyze the results

  6. 5. Improve • Its time to make any changes! (what works? What doesn’t?) • Improve design (make modifications) • Retest & Reevaluate • Try again!

  7. Design & Create • You are making a “puff mobile” • You MUST use all the materials • 1 piece of paper • Maximum 3 straws • Life savers (4) • Scissors • Tape • Straight pins (as many as needed)

  8. Grading & Competition • If it rolls straight, you get an “A” • If it doesn’t – you have a problem • Race to the line tomorrow • Prizes
