The History of TROY: Early Beginnings TROY has a history rich in the progressive development of security printing innovations, going back to its founding in 1963 when TROY introduced a unique method of manufacturing print drums for impact printers. In the 1970s, TROY continued developing this proprietary drum technology to create high-speed check printing systems by adding the special magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) characters to print drums. TROY has sold these printers, with various speeds and capabilities, to banks, insurance companies and large corporations throughout the world. In 1975 the company designed the current government check and sold printers to the US Treasury, Army, Navy and Air Force for payroll, retirement and other benefit checks.

  7. The History of TROY: 1975 - Today TROY introduced the first desktop laser check printer in 1986 and the solution became popular with branch banks and insurance companies. In 1993, HP sought TROY’s partnership to provide its customers with MICR capabilities and during that year TROY opened its MICR toner manufacturing facility in Wheeling, WV. Since 1993 TROY has held a strong partnership with HP producing products in OEM toner cartridges. In addition to HP based solutions, TROY has developed solutions for Lexmark, IBM, Xerox, and Canon printers. In 2008 TROY leveraged the company expertise to develop an innovative secure prescription printing solution and has continued to evolve as a secure document company. In 2013 TROY launched its first UV Toner solutions, which quickly peaked interest amongst our customers in Egypt and throughout the world. In 2013 TROY also opened an ink lab allowing the company to diversify product development beyond toner. In summer 2017, TROY released the first smart, fraud-resistant total security solution for printed documents, SecureDocs. This software, when combined with SecureUV ink technology, is the industry’s first “Point of Issue” security platform; one which enables users to print on-demand, secure, tamper-proof documents across their existing desktop printing environment. Today, TROY is focused on becoming the recognized expert in personalized, on demand, layered security printing.
