SUMMARY • NEW PHYSICS UPGRADES TO GFDL MODEL IN 2006 LEAD TO MUCH IMPROVED INTENSITY FORECASTS. • LATEST GFDL PHYSICS PACKAGES WERE SUCCESSFULLY TRANSFERRED TO HWRF. • HWRF TRACK ERROR COMPARABLE TO GFDL AT 72H WITH SOME DEGRADATION IN LONGER TERM BUT HWRF MODEL DEVELOPMENT CONTINUING. • NEW VERSION OF GFS HYBRID COORDINATE SYSTEM AND GSI IS LEADING TO IMPROVED TRACKS FOR BOTH THE GFS AND GFDL MODELS IN 3-5 DAYS IN THE ATLANTIC.
