Can you find your way around? Before we start this unit it is important that you familiarise yourself with the location & geography of Europe

  4. Europe • The best way to learn is to study maps. • Where is Europe located? • It is located north of Africa and to the north west of Asia. • It is surrounded on three sides by water, and borders the Asian continent on the east. • How many people live there? • Over 800million and the total land area is 4,809,200 square miles or 12, 456,000 square kilomiters

  5. On the blank maps locate the following countries • France • Spain • Portugal • Italy • Greece • Croatia • Cyprus • Slovenia • Switzerland • Czech Republic • Norway • Sweden • Finland • Austria • Germany • Turkey • Bulgaria • Belgium • Netherlands • Poland

  6. How did you do? • Check your answers with others • Check your answers against the map of Europe • Add the countries to the right places on a blank map of Europe – you must be accurate! Spend time memorising these at home.

  7. On the blank maps locate the following capital cities • Madrid • Paris • Prague • Berlin • Rome • Lisbon • Oslo • Stockholm

  8. How did you do? • Now add the other capital cities for the European countries found earlier • Check your answers and re write them on to a blank map • Try to memorise these places

  9. HOMEWORK Go to a travel agent to find out about one destination (not a whole country but one place such as Madrid or Benidorm) Using the information and your own research you need to create a 1 page information leaflet to show where the destination is (a small map would be great), transport, flight details, cost, attractions, accommodation range, culture, food, tradition, temperature, weather, passports, visas, time zone eg: GMT+1 TO BE HANDED NEXT FRIDAY
