  1. “Autobiographical” Assignment A brief break from research writing

  2. Step One: • Think of a “cultural collision” in your own life. It can be: • A real one that actually happened to you • Something that happened to you that you want to make up more details about • Something that you could imagine happening to you because of your culture that you will make up

  3. Step Two: • Write me a short story (at least 2 pages, double-spaced, 12 pt font) about this real or imagined cultural collision. You can write in first or third person, but make sure that the collision experienced is something you can relate to.

  4. Guidelines • This is a creative homework assignment, so there are not as many specific parameters as there are with formal assignments. The big things are: • 2 pages long, double-spaced, 12 pt. font • Story should have beginning, middle, and end • Story should only try to tell of one specific incident or series of incidents; don’t try to summarize lifelong oppressions

  5. Don’t Stress • This is your only homework assignment. • Unless you haven’t done your Cultural Artifact Presentation. • Because then that is homework too. • Obviously. • You will finish the book for homework on Monday, after we get through Career Day.
