  1. Quiz Review • Mendeleev- 1st periodic table of elements • Modern PT uses atomic number to put the elements in order • Valence Electrons- are the electrons on the outermost energy level in the electron cloud • The ones place for groups 1, 2, & 13-18 indicates the # of VE.

  2. Quiz Review • Metals- malleable, shiny, few valence electrons, good conductors, solids at room temp. Left side of zigzag line • Metalloids- brittle, solids, can be good conductors. Touching zigzag line • Non-metals-poor conductors, can be gasses, liquids or solid at room temp. Right side of zigzag line

  3. Quiz Review • Metals get less reactive as you go from left to right on the period. They get more reactive as you go down the group. • Group 1- Alkali metals • Group 2- Alkaline Earth Metals • Groups 3-12-Transition Metals • Groups 13-16- named after the first element in the family

  4. Quiz Review • Group 17- Halogens- most reactive non metal family, with F being the most reactive non- metal • Group 18- Noble gases, He 2 VE, the rest have 8 VE. He is the first noble gas, non-reactive. Due to octet rule, “I 8, I full” • Rows-periods • Columns- groups or families
