The Problem Is All Inside Your Head, (It Seems To Me…..) • One of the most significant problems encountered in the development of an effective waste reduction program in the factory-built housing industry is not knowing where to find good waste reduction information. • Arming yourself with resources is essential to making your program work.

  3. The Answer Is Simple If You Take It Logically… • Be a step ahead of the game…… • Have your resources mapped out ahead of time. • Know where AND how to acquire knowledge and tools you’ll need in order to become an effective waste reduction specialist. • Remember Charlie Steinmetz………

NC DPPEA provides FREE, NON-REGULATORY waste reduction assistance as well as information, referral, web resources, and print documents.

  6. There must be Fifty Ways To Relieve Your Dumpster……

  7. You JustSlip Out The Back, Jack…. • Do a walkthrough waste assessment in your manufacturing facility. • Go out back to the dumpster and “Dumpster Dive” to determine the waste commodities with which you are dealing. Is your waste primarily wood scrap, pallets, drywall, plastic film?

  8. Make a New Plan, Stan…… • Do your homework • Map out a strategy for waste reduction • Search library references for information on reducing and/or recycling each waste commodity on your “hit list”. • Search the Directory of Markets For Recyclable Materials for markets. • Join an environmental listserv like P2Assist.

  9. You Don’t Need To Be Coy, Roy • Don’t be afraid to work with your local and state government waste-reduction specialists. • They can provide Non-regulatory waste reduction technical assistance at NO COST.

  10. Just Get Yourself Free……..Here are a few tried-and-true methods that work………

  11. Just Hop On The Bus, Gus….. • Form Alliances • Network, Network, Network….. • Learn from your peers. • There’s power in numbers.

  12. You’ll Need To Discuss Much • The more you share, the more you learn. • Develop a waste discussion group or solid waste/recycling consortium. • Talk often with colleagues.

  13. Just Drop Off The Key, Lee… • In many instances, after developing a waste reduction program, businesses are able to “turn in the key” to their compactor or dumpster (downsizing) and reduce the number of waste hauls over a given period of time.
