COMPARING AND CONTRASTING Copy the following sentences from Phoenix Rising, and be prepared to discuss how they are similar and different. “Plunging my stinging hands deep inside my pockets, I pulled my arms tight to my sides and tried to hold my shivering in.” “Keeping my arm around Muncie, I helped her to the road, guiding her to the tire tracks.”

  4. COLLABORATING Using the following example, let’s write a similar sentence. “Grabbing the detector, I returned silently up the steps.” --Phoenix Rising

  5. IMITATING It’s your turn! Using the following sentences from Phoenix Rising as examples, create a sentence of your own. “Brushing back the sides of my hair, I signed and sat down on the bed’s edge.” “Coming back into the open, the fog engulfed me.”

  7. Now it’s time to apply these sentences to your writing. Select a piece of writing from your writing folder. Use the following sentences from Phoenix Rising as example to help you enhance one or two sentences in your writing.
