Characters Dill – returns to Meridian Jem – takes Scout to school Miss Caroline Fischer – First grade teacher, 21, Scout – Also Jean-Louise. She can read already. Walter Cunningham – Atticus helped his father with a law issue. Later on Mr Cunningham would threaten Atticus. Miss Blount – another more strict teacher at school
Events Why was Scout hauled to the front of the room? Why was the palm of her hand patted by a ruler? Why did she have to stand in the corner? Atticus must stop teaching Scout to read. Calpurnia taught Scout to write (also wrong in Miss Fischer’s eyes) Scout had to explain why Walter Cunningham had no lunch The grade 1’s laughed at the way Scout was whipped and punished.
