  1. Blue Care SundayIt’s only the beginning… 21 August 2011

  2. The people gather [A blue candle is lit] We gather at the beginning of worship, and remember that God is with us We remember the faithfulness and protection of God – in our community, in our lives, and in the work of Blue Care

  3. Call to worship This is God’s world and we are part of it. In God’s world there is wonderful diversity. The Church is made up of people from the north, south, east and west. In God’s family all are to be loved and accepted. May we reflect the hospitality of God. Within us and amongst us the Spirit unites us, building bridges we cannot build alone. God has made us one. God has made us all different! Wherever we go we can meet God. There is nowhere we can go where God can not reach us. Come now to where God is found Come now to the moment of God’s revelation.

  4. Hymn/Song Prayers of thanksgiving and confession Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. God’s love is everlasting. Come, let us praise God joyfully. Let us come to God with thanksgiving. For the good world; for things great and small, beautiful and awesome; for seen and unseen splendours: Thank you, God. For human life; for talking and moving and thinking together; for common hopes and hardships shared from birth until dying: Thank you, God.

  5. For family; for living together and eating together; for family amusements and family pleasures: Thank you, God. For children; for their energy and curiosity; for their imagination and creativity; for their startling frankness and their sudden sympathies: Thank you, God. For young people; for their high hopes and visions for the future; for their irreverence towards worn-out values; for their search for freedom and their solemn vows: Thank you, God. For growing up and growing old; for wisdom deepened by experience; for rest in leisure; and for time made precious by its passing: Thank you, God.

  6. For your help in times of doubt and sorrow; for healing our diseases; for preserving us in temptation and danger: Thank you, God. For the Holy Spirit, who guides our steps and brings us gifts of faith and love; who prays in us and prompts our grateful worship: We praise you, our God. For your Son Jesus Christ, who lived and died and lives again for our salvation; for our hope in him; and for the joy of serving him: We praise you, our God. We give you thanks. God’s love is everlasting.

  7. Spirit of God, you are the breath of creation, the wind of change that blows through our lives, opening us up to new dreams and new hopes, new life in Jesus Christ. Forgive us our closed minds which barricade themselves against new ideas, preferring the past to what you might want to do through us tomorrow. Forgive our closed eyes which fail to see the needs of your world, blind to opportunities of service and love. Forgive our closed hands which clutch our gifts and our wealth for our own use alone. Forgive us our closed hearts which limit our affections to ourselves and our own. Spirit of new life, forgive us and break down the prison walls of our selfishness, that we might be open to your love and open for the service of your world, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

  8. Declaration of forgiveness Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Hear then the word of grace and the assurance of pardon: Your sins are forgiven. Thanks be to God.

  11. The people respond Affirmation of Faith We are not alone, we live in God’s world. We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God.

  12. We are called to be the Church: to celebrate God’s presence, to live with respect in Creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Hymn/Song Offering

  13. Prayers of the People In peace, we pray to you, faithful and loving God. For all people in their daily life and work; for our families, friends, and neighbours, and for those who are alone. For this community, our country, and the world; for all who work for justice, freedom, and peace. For the just and proper use of your creation; for the victims of hunger, fear, injustice and oppression. For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; for those who minister to the sick, the friendless and the needy.
