  25. first reading Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17CEV Ruth and Boaz R: The first Reading for the third last Sunday of the Church year is written in Ruth Chapter 3 beginning at verse 1.

  26. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 One day, Naomi said to Ruth: It's time I found you a husband, who will give you a home and take care of you. 2You have been picking up grain alongside the women who work for Boaz, and you know he is a relative of ours.

  27. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 Tonight he will be threshing the grain. 3Now take a bath and put on some perfume, then dress in your best clothes. Go where he is working, but don't let him see you until he has finished eating and drinking.

  28. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 4Watch where he goes to spend the night, then when he is asleep, lift the cover and lie down at his feet. He will tell you what to do. 5Ruth answered, "I'll do whatever you say.”

  29. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 13 Boaz married Ruth, and the LORD blessed her with a son. 14 After his birth, the women said to Naomi: Praise the LORD! Today he has given you a grandson to take care of you. We pray that the boy will grow up to be famous everywhere in Israel.

  30. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 15 He will make you happy and take care of you in your old age, because he is the son of your daughter-in-law. And she loves you more than seven sons of your own would love you.

  31. Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17 Naomi loved the boy and took good care of him. 17 The neighborhood women named him Obed, but they called him "Naomi's Boy." When Obed grew up he had a son named Jesse, who later became the father of King David.   This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  32. Psalm 127CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 127 1Without the help of the LORD it is useless to build a home or to guard a city C: 2It is useless to get up early and stay up late in order to earn a living. R: God takes care of his own, even while they sleep.

  33. Psalm 127CEV C: 3Children are a blessing and a gift from the LORD R: 4Having a lot of children to take care of you in your old age is like a warrior with a lot of arrows.

  34. Psalm 127CEV C: 5The more you have, the better off you will be, because they will protect you when your enemies attack with arguments.  Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen.

  35. SECOND READING Hebrews 9:24-28 CEV Christ's sacrifice takes away sins R: The second reading is written in Hebrews Chapter 9 beginning at verse 24.

  36. Hebrews 9:24-28 24This is why Christ did not go into a tent that had been made by humans and was only a copy of the real one. Instead, he went into heaven and is now there with God to help us.

  37. Hebrews 9:24-28 25Christ did not have to offer himself many times. He wasn't like a high priest who goes into the most holy place each year to offer the blood of an animal.

  38. Hebrews 9:24-28 26If he had offered himself every year, he would have suffered many times since the creation of the world. But instead, near the end of time he offered himself once and for all, so that he could be a sacrifice that does away with sin.

  39. Hebrews 9:24-28 27We die only once, and then we are judged. 28So Christ died only once to take away the sins of many people. But when he comes again, it will not be to take away sin. He will come to save everyone who is waiting for him This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  40. RESPONSE C: ♫ Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. Alleluia.

  41. gospel Mark 12:38-44 CEV The widow's generous offering M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 12 of the Gospel according to St Mark beginning at verse 38. C: ♫ Glory to you, O Lord.

  42. Mark 12:38-44 38As Jesus was teaching, he said: Guard against the teachers of the Law of Moses! They love to walk around in long robes and be greeted in the market. 39They like the front seats in the meeting places and the best seats at banquets.

  43. Mark 12:38-44 40But they cheat widows out of their homes and pray long prayers just to show off. They will be punished most of all. 41Jesus was sitting in the temple near the offering box and watching people put in their gifts. He noticed that many rich people were giving a lot of money.

  44. Mark 12:38-44 42Finally, a poor widow came up and put in two coins that were worth only a few pennies. 43Jesus told his disciples to gather around him. Then he said: I tell you that this poor widow has put in more than all the others.

  45. Mark 12:38-44 44Everyone else gave what they didn't need. But she is very poor and gave everything she had. Now she doesn't have a cent to live on. This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: ♫ Praise to you, O Christ.

  46. Prayer after the gospel M: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your great generosity to us. Make our faith sincere, so that we too give generously of ourselves. C: Amen.

  47. NICENE CREED C: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
