Overview of On-the-Job Training in WIA 11 • WIA 11 provides OJT services to several local employers who provide the occupational skills training and full time employment which leads to self-sufficiency for the participant. • The minimum hourly figure the company pays shall be no less than $7 of which up to 50% is paid by WIA and the remaining 50%(or more) is paid by the company. • Once a 6-month period has lapsed, the employer takes on full responsibility of the employee regarding the full wages and benefits paid.

Items to consider while contracting an OJT • Has your Local Board developed an Employer Evaluation which will determine if the employer has relocated and brings with it potential pitfalls and if there will be any problems with participant retention? • Is the employee earning a self-sufficient wage as determined by the Local Board? • Will the employer be able to provide OJT participants with continued long-term employment including wages, benefits, and working conditions equal to its other employees? • Has the Local Board established a time limit required for a participant to become proficient in the occupation for which the training is being provided?

Conclusion • WIA 11 will continue to work on OJTs as a means for providing participants with training opportunities which will lead to long term employment and self sufficiency. • WIA 11 will also consider further job training possibilities including Customized, Incumbent and other related job training opportunities.
