Making a trap cage. You need plastic bottles, wire, string, a plastic bag and tools. Cut a disc from the bottom of one of the bottles. Trim the edges of the disc to make it neat. It should look like this. Now cut the bottle about 10 cm from the top.

  1. Making a trap cage

  2. You need plastic bottles, wire, string, a plastic bag and tools.

  3. Cut a disc from the bottom of one of the bottles.

  4. Trim the edges of the disc to make it neat.

  5. It should look like this.

  6. Now cut the bottle about 10 cm from the top.

  7. Make a number of vertical cuts, 1 cm long and 1-2 cm apart.

  8. Fold the resulting flaps out.

  9. You should now have a plastic funnel like this.

  10. Cut the second bottle about 10 cm from the base…

  11. ...to form a cup like this.

  12. Trim the remaining top half of the bottle…

  13. ..fit the two pieces together to form a short bottle..

  15. You need to make holes in the plastic. To do this easily…

  16. Heat a metal tube...

  17. ...and make a hole in the plastic disc you made earlier.

  18. You will create a hole like this. Remove any flashing and..

  19. fix the disc on the end of the short bottle you made earlier.

  20. Then make a hole in the side of the bottle and...

  21. ...and attach the funnel which you made earlier.

  22. The funnel and bottle should fit snugly but be detachable....

  23. You need a metal or wire ring like this.

  24. Attach the ring to the netting funnel inside the Epsilon.

  25. Attach a length of soft wire to the plastic funnel.

  26. Secure it tightly around the apex of the funnel.

  27. It should now look like this.

  28. The cage will eventually be like this, but first…

  29. ..pass the funnel through the metal ring..

  30. The funnel should fit snugly against the ring like this.

  31. The flexible plastic tabs should be flush against the netting.

  32. Attach the wire to the supporting bar of the Epsilon trap.

  33. The cage should now be self-supporting like this.

  34. Now attach the plastic bag to the plastic cage.

  35. When completed, the cage should look like this.
